GSX-R! Superbike Saturday at Road Atlanta
by Rideharder 04-18-2010, 10:03 PM

Road Atlanta Saturday Even without a new 2010 model year, the 2009 Suzuki GSX-Rs showed why they're such popular motorcycles by completely dominating the podiums in both the AMA Daytona SportBike and AMA American SuperBike classes on Saturday at the first races of the Suzuki Superbike Showdown at Road Atlanta doubleheader.

The GSX-R600 and the GSX-R1000 were fast everywhere on the track and filled up the podium in both classes.

In the Daytona SportBike class, it was a 1-2-3 punch for the amazing GSX-R600. Martin Cardenas of the M4 Monster Energy Suzuki team took top honors after a thrilling race with a lot of leader changes and spectacular passing.

In his first podium appearance, Cory West of the Vesrah Suzuki team nabbed second place after leading some laps during the 30-minute race. Also aboard a GSX-R600, Danny Eslick took the third spot on the podium with his GEICO Powersports RMR Suzuki.
Eslick is currently leading the class in points thanks to strong finishes and pole position starts in half the races so far in 2010.

In the AMA American SuperBike class, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 took all three spots on the podium. In his first career SuperBike win, Blake Young of the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team ended up on top of the podium after winning the pole earlier in the day.

Young was quick everywhere on the track his with GSX-R, and after another racer who jumped the start was penalized Young was awarded the first-place medal. Young also earned the pole point in Saturday's race as well as the fastest lap point.
His teammate Tommy Hayden was also very quick with his Rockstar Makita Suzuki machine and placed right behind Young for second place.

Rounding out the podium, Jake Zemke rode his National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the third place spot. All three riders are inside the top five in points.

Look for the GSX-Rs to race to the front of the pack again on Sunday, the second day of the Road Atlanta doubleheader.

Sunday nights races were even better than the Saturdays! I've always hated Suzuki's and this don't change much.
